The first of three chests is almost complete. I can’t afford to put doors on it yet, so I plan to use it as is. There are five more planes to house, and trunk corners to put on (still looking for them…they’re a little special because the three corner ones don’t work on an open front). I’ve settled on magnets to secure the planes below, the upper ones need more, so cleats look promising.
Made these pecan wood replacement handles complete with traditional leather washers..Each handle is custom fitted to its socket. These are elusive and rare Diamond Everlast chisels, one of the finest chisel sets ever made. Very proud to have been allowed to make these handles for this set.
More progress—the plane till case is coming together. This is a dry fit after hand cutting the dovetails. Now I need to decide about the back. I’m leaning towards beaded boards because I don’t have walnut plywood. The till plate will add lateral stability. Also need chest handles.
